ORIGINS
I grew up in a small Ohio town and I rode the school bus from 1st through 12th grades. My bus ride always included a country road on which every school day we saw a one-room brick school house. (SW corner of Stine Rd and Enon-Xenia Pike). As the years went by I watched this wonderful, familiar friend fall apart. After I married the school really began to deteriorate. Every time we visited the area I would want to take a photo of the school but never did. Finally, when we went specifically for the task, the school was gone. It was a huge loss for me and, since that time, whenever we pass a one-room school it is a joy to stop to take a picture or two. Thus, our collection here and the blog with schools in other states. Unknown School, Fayette County
South of West Union. Seen on a farm, set back from the road and restored as living quarters. Located on the west side of SR150, .6 mile south of 210th St. Obscured by trees from the road, and seen only from the south at a distance. Will return to photograph again when the season changes to reduce foliage.
Photographed on 7/27/13.
On 3/17/18 we got this photograph using a telephoto from the road. I was wearing my kilt and shoes which were not good for climbing up the berm to get a frontal shot from over the fence. THAT will have to wait for another time.

Proceed east on Harness Rd for .5 mile and the school will be on the North side of the road.

Dover #1
While looking for Dover #6, we met a very nice gentleman in Clermont, whose name was Dean. He was very helpful with directions to Dover #6, and then told us about others we already had photographed except for this particular one. Originally located at the NW corner of CR W42 and B40 (Great River Rd). Relocated 2 miles north of B40 on the west side of W42. It is being remodeled into a Bed and Breakfast.
Dover #6
Built in 1898, closed in 1965 and preserved as it was. Still has playground equipment on the property. Two ways to arrive. From Clermont, proceed northwest and west on CR B40/Great River Road for seven miles. The School is on the SE corner of Ironwood Road. From West Union, proceed north on CR W42 to B40 adn then proceed east about 3 miles to Ironwood Road.
Photos taken on 8/3/11
Clermont #2, Riverside
A few miles northeast of Clermont on US18 is the Heritage Farm Park with several old structures which have been moved there. This school was built in 1891. It has the original bell, but desks have been donated from St. Peter Catholic School. Preserved. The photo was taken on 8/3/11. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that the autofocus wasn't quite in focus.
Clermont Township #?
Northeast of Clermont on US18, 1.4 miles north of Heritage Farms Park, on west side of the road. Brick school now used as “Ole and Lars Woodshop.” Photos taken on 8/3/11.

Dover #?, South of Eldorado, IA
In this school we could see the remnants of the blackboard but could not get in a position to photograph it. This school is 2.8 miles south the Turkey River (at Eldorado) on Iowa SR 150, on the west side of the road. Photographed on 6/29/08.
Update: On 8/1/12 we drove by this school and, since it was falling apart, we photographed it again.
Dover #4, Willow Spring School
This school, built in 1912, was found on Iowa SR150 a few miles north of Eldorado, just north of King Rd, on the west side of the highway. Photographed 6/29/08.
This next photo was taken on 8/1/11. The brush around the school has been cleared away and it looks like they are restoring it.
Two more photos from 8/1/12
UPDATE 3/17/18: Look at the great restoration which has been accomplished!
