West Lancaster #5

Closed in the early 1960s, became part of a museum, and then later used as a township hall. Proceed south on Sigourney on SR149 to V5G/255th St, then go west  to just past 205th Ave. School is on the north side, still with original outhouses.

From Sigourney, proceed east on SR92 to SR149 and turn north. Proceed about 2.75 miles to 192nd St and turn east. At about 1 mile 192nd will bend north on 230th Ave and the school will be right there on the NW corner, facing south.

German #11, Stoney Point School

From Sigourney, proceed about 2.5 miles east on SR92 to 240th Ave and turn south. Proceed 1 mile to 230th St, and the school will be on the SW corner. Four Rivers Coon Hunters club has used it for years.

Lancaster School, Lancaster

The little town of Lancaster really doesn't exist any more as a town.  This school was in the town square when it was built in 1881.  The school operated until closing on May 13, 1964, and was later used as a voting station.  It was open for tours on the day we visited.  For restoration, desks and blackboards were brought in from Hayesville School (which was similar) before it was torn down in 2010.

To locate this school from Sigourney, proceed south out of town on State Highway 149 about three miles to County Road V5G.  Proceed east on V5G for 2.6 miles and the school will be on the south side of the road, facing south, between 227th and 228th Streets.

The next two shots are of the second floor.  You can see the bell rope in the second shot, out in the hall.

This is the hall way and trapdoor on the 2nd floor.  They kept the door closed when the upper story wasn't in use.

Here is a shot of the first floor, and you can see one of the voting machines in the upper left corner.

This last photo was given to us at the tour.  It was taken by a 4-H member during the winter.  We thought it was a very nice shot.
