ORIGINS

I grew up in a small Ohio town and I rode the school bus from 1st through 12th grades. My bus ride always included a country road on which every school day we saw a one-room brick school house. (SW corner of Stine Rd and Enon-Xenia Pike). As the years went by I watched this wonderful, familiar friend fall apart. After I married the school really began to deteriorate. Every time we visited the area I would want to take a photo of the school but never did. Finally, when we went specifically for the task, the school was gone. It was a huge loss for me and, since that time, whenever we pass a one-room school it is a joy to stop to take a picture or two. Thus, our collection here and the blog with schools in other states. West Lancaster #5

Closed in the early 1960s, became part of a museum, and then later used as a township hall. Proceed south on Sigourney on SR149 to V5G/255th St, then go west  to just past 205th Ave. School is on the north side, still with original outhouses.

I live in Sigourney and would be interested in visiting this school, but your directions must be off. I can't find a 205th St. off of 255th St./V5G. If you head east on that road, you'll get to the Lancaster Heritage one room school house, but this isn't it.

Drew,

Go WEST off of 149 on 255th St (which is also V5G). Go west from that intersection and 205th St is the first N/S road. I forgot to measure the distance to 205th but I'm guessing about 1/2 mile. Then go a short distance west of 205th and the school will be on the north side of 255th.

Drew,

I see that I had 205th "St" but it should be "Ave"
